Patinated Aluminum - Public Installation

As the Viewer explores the work, they find this duality exists within layers. After the initial recognition of the building itself and the sculptural Installation, an understanding forms that there are two distinct sculptures, themselves a combination of two formal elements that each have a contrasting finish. This nod to a sense of two or “Twins” circles back to the connection with the Architect of the lost Twin Towers World Trade Center in NYC: Minoru Yamasaki

  1. In After MInouru’s Towers one can project a relationship between the World Trade Center not just in the towering rectangle in forced perspective, but also the negative shapes reminiscent to the lower girder pattern on the towers themselves. The blue swirl encircling in opposition speaks of actions,  hope, and a movement onwards into the future.

  2. In The Long Way There the viewer finds a high contrast pairing of structural avenues. The molten hot patina on the surface of the base cools over time to form both parts. Intertwined in a floating embrace, these oppositions offer possibilities through the arched doorway. A choice to go through or around?
