John Boychuk is a working Artist, Maker /Project Manager, Professor and Father who lives in Richmond, CA. Originally from the Detroit Metro area, John moved to the SF Bay Area to attend the California College of the Arts in San Francisco for his Master’s of Fine Arts with a scholarship in Ceramics 2016. He received his Bachelor's of Fine Art from The Penny Stamps School of Art and Design at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI in General Studies with a Minor in Art History 2010. John also has a Google Project Management: Professional Certificate through Coursera 2024.
As a Professional Artist, John has a wide variety of materials he works with, which include: Ceramics, Metal working, Drawing, Painting, Digital 2D, 3D and VFX compositing. His works play upon our visceral relationship to materials connecting historical traditions with technological innovation. John uses our immediate reaction to beauty, familiarity, disgust, or discomfort as an entry point for the viewer to discover deeper meanings within the works. He likes to leave, “Breadcrumbs of recognition for the viewer to follow and arrive at an understanding of their own imagination”. In his 20+ years of creative making, John has shown in both North and South America, Europe and Asia. He has taught at the University of Silicon Valley, in San Jose, CA, SAE Expression College, Emeryville, CA, and was the 8th Master of Ceramics- Visiting Scholar at the University of Ping Ding Shan, Henan, China in 2018. Currently, he sits on the Board of Directors at the Richmond Art Center in Richmond, CA.
